Your Altar
This is a very personal space, and still I've seen people insist that it has to be a certain way, or have certain things... You should include on your altar ANYthing that makes you feel good, and helps to put you in the proper frame of mind - if it feels magickal to you, it's perfect! For example, in addition to my basic tools, I have a small statue that my daughter made for me, and a robot dragon my son gave me for my birthday... These things have no practical use on an altar, but they feel perfect, and help remind me why I do what I do! There are certain tools that are handy to have, but nothing is critical!
Always keep this in mind - it is NEVER necessary to spend a fortune on supplies - things you make or get directly from nature work just as well. There are some (not all, by any means!) of the recognized standards (I definitely don't use all of them!), so I will list some here with their uses so you can get ideas:
The Pentacle
The pentacle is often used as an instrument of protection. It can be hung over doors and windows or worn about the neck as a pendant. The five points on the pentacle represent each of the five elements: Earth, Air, Fire, Water and Spirit. In ritual, the pentacle is used to evoke spirits and to consecrate other ritual tools. It can be made out of brass, silver, wood, clay or any other material that can be engraved.
Something

dirt ....Air: Incense
Water: A bowl of water .......Fire: Candles
Incense Burner
Let your incense burn
out naturally, and return the ashes to the Earth when you are finished.
